Hackberries in Ice
Ice was on everything, highlighting structures we might not normally notice, bringing them lower so we could see them. Overhanging branches reached down like nets, barricading the usual paths.
Soaking Up the Sun
Let’s flashback to another warm and lazy day in September of 2013. The dragonflies were circling the pond, landing in their favorite spots, then circling the pond again, for all the world like teenagers cruising downtown in their cars.
More Frigid Drips
Winter weather can sure be beautiful! In Oklahoma, usually when the sun comes out, the photographer must hurry to get the shots before the beauty melts away.
These were fun to shoot, making me think of a xylophone or wind chimes with these spaced icicles and intermittent drips.
Can you imagine these drips to the sound of a xylophone?
Mysterious Brew
Now for a flashback to a warmer time. I know we are not the coldest part of the country here in OK, but it was -4 degrees F this morning!
I loved the texture and the color in this shot of the pond, taken last September, when the temperature was well above freezing.
A Frozen Moment
It is funny, I want to say this is a moment frozen in time, but really the ice was melting. I was trying to take a photo of one of the drips just as it accumulated enough mass to break away from the cohesion water displays.
Tall floral pagoda
Here is another of these large, eye-catching flowers. I find the horsemint spectacular flowers. And this year we have many of them. Funny fact: they are growing in the pasture from which I just removed the horses this spring 🙂

Morning Luxury
Just at sunrise I was out for some exercise – or so I told myself. The fact that I was carrying my camera is really all the evidence you need that I was really out there for a more artistic sort of exercise than strictly working up a sweat and raising my heart rate. This is what caught my attention first:

Thistle silk
The ends of a thistle are soft and silky.
I wonder how it would work as pillow stuffing?
Seed Explosion
This was shot at dusk. There wasn’t much color anyway, so I de-saturated.
I quite like the silvery effect. What do you think?
