Keeping an Eye on You!

This is my son’s Buff Cochin pair, standing together. I meant to post this photo on Valentine’s Day, but forgot I even had it.

Keeping an Eye on You! - Winter 2012

Bridger keeps them safe, so when they are outside, they are still protected by a welded wire enclosure. He has good reason, as coyotes and raccoons, opossums and foxes, even hawks, owls, and eagles all love a good, fat chicken dinner!

Buttercup does her best to help keep them safe, but as she rides to work with us daily, she is not home during most days – not the most effective security system ever devised!

It’s a Standoff!

Tiger stares at Zookie. Is he daring her to just try and chase him? Or is he measuring the distance between them, estimating her rate of speed, and calculating how long it will take him to get to a tree? Actually, they get along great, and Zookie only chases Tiger if he runs. And he rarely runs.

Alert!

I love the light in early morning on a sunny day, especially filtered by a canopy of leaves and intercepted and reflected by my horses!

What is approaching up the driveway? If you keep half an eye on your horses, there’s not much you will miss.

Something moving this way comes - 2010

Horses keep an eye on everything that moves – in this case, Mike, Zookie, and Buttercup running.

The Grass Was Greener

While this is a portrait of Blaze, Bridger’s POA (a Pony of the Americas – basically an Appaloosa in miniature),ย it is also an afternoon flashback, to a time when the grass was green. To when there wasย grass to be green! In the past we would have noticed Blaze’s eager expression, his black and white and pink coloring, his ratty old halter… This time when we saw this photo, Bridger and I both thought, “Wow, look how green that grass is!”

Blaze - Study in Black & White & Green - October 2010

We know Blaze and his buddies join us in hoping La Nina will relent and we will soon see green grass growing in the pastures.
